Civilian Civilian Drive up to the checkpoint, get inspected, and either cross clean or cross carrying something you should not be. No rank ceiling
Border Patrol Federal Run the primary and secondary inspection lanes: approve, scan, or send a vehicle through for a full search. Chief of the Line 77,420
Police Federal City-side law enforcement: warrants, apartment raids, printer confiscation, and the new camera network. Troop Commander 87,952
FBI Federal Federal investigations team with its own vehicles, uniform and loadout; sold as a game pass. Director 6,996
US Army Federal Military presence on the line, with military vehicles; sold as a game pass. Captain 4,165
Coast Guard Federal Patrols the maritime border and rams smuggling boats until they sink. The number of Coast Guard players in a server raises what each boat run pays. No rank ceiling

Team names and top ranks are taken from the game's own Roblox badge list, which names the maximum rank on each federal team and awards a separate badge for reaching Tier III on all of them. Award counts are the badge counts pulled from the Roblox API on 2026-08-30 and are the only public measure of how many players actually reach each ceiling. Coast Guard is the one team with no rank badge of its own; it is listed here because two creator sources describe playing against Coast Guard players at sea, and Coast Guard vessels appear in the game's official screenshots.

What the rank numbers say

Read them against the 31.5 million players who have earned the join badge and a picture appears that no team description gives you. Police has the most players at its ceiling (87,952), Border Patrol is close behind (77,420), and then the paid teams fall off a cliff: FBI 6,996 and US Army just 4,165. The game-pass teams are not harder to rank up — they are simply played by far fewer people.

The rarest thing on the whole list is Federal Career: "Reach at least a Tier III rank on every federal team", earned 527 times. That is roughly one in sixty thousand of everyone who has ever loaded the game, and it is the closest thing this experience has to a completion trophy. It also tells you the rank structure: federal teams run on numbered tiers, and Tier III is well short of the top.

Picking a side

Play Civilian if

  • You want money. Every high-earning loop in the game — printers, the farm, smuggling, the bank — is civilian-side.
  • You are happy for the gameplay to be logistics rather than confrontation.

Play federal if

  • You want the investigation loop: tablet lookups, immigration checks, warrants, raids.
  • You want progression with a visible ceiling — the rank badges above are the scoreboard.
  • Confiscating printers at roughly $10,000 each is the one federal earner that competes with civilian money.

Coast Guard is the odd one out

Coast Guard is playable — two separate creator guides describe fighting Coast Guard players at sea, and Coast Guard vessels are in the game's own promotional screenshots — but it is the only team with no rank badge of its own. The four named ceilings in the table cover Border Patrol, Police, FBI and US Army; nothing in the badge list tracks Coast Guard progression at all.

It also has the most direct effect on another player's income of any team in the game: the payout on a boat smuggling run scales with how many Coast Guard players are in the server. Joining Coast Guard makes the smugglers you are hunting richer, whether you catch them or not.

FAQ

How do you become a Border Patrol agent?

Pick Border Patrol from the team menu — it is an open team, no purchase needed. Processing civilians through the checkpoint is what ranks you up towards Chief of the Line.

What is the highest rank in San Diego Border Roleplay?

Each team has its own: Chief of the Line for Border Patrol, Troop Commander for Police, Director for the FBI and Captain for the US Army. Reaching Tier III on every federal team awards Federal Career, earned only 527 times.

Are the FBI and US Army teams free?

No, both are game passes. The US Army pass was 700 Robux in creator footage from August 2026.
